If you'd like to learn more about how ultrasound can control pond algae please play the video below to get a quick overview of an ultrasonic system for ponds. Even though they use high technology to work, the sonic units provide the benefits of very simple and easy installation in most ponds, and with no moving parts, they require very little in the way of up keep and maintenance.
This video provides some very basic information on the components that make up a typical sonic solutions ultrasound system and how the technology works. There is additional information below on specific units for different pond and industrial applications.
Ultrasound, or the use of sound waves, tuned to precise frequencies, to control algae might seem like science fiction.
Truth is, it's actually a very effective tool for algae control, and it can help minimize the use of chemical algaecides, lower treatment costs, and create a healthier environment.
Ultrasonic systems are fitted for a pond or application based on the necessary area of coverage and the type of algae present. Usually the length in feet is the primary consideration.
A typical sonic system is made up of a control box, which can be plugged into a standard 120v outlet, a cable which runs from the control box to the transducer, which is the emitter that goes in the water.
This configuration makes ultrasound very easy to install in most ponds and industrial applications.
The graphic at the right show's a typical range of the SS100 system which is for smaller ponds and basins up to 100 feet in length. The range for virtually all algae types as well as biofilm control will reach up to 100 feet from the transducer, while the range for some blue green algae can be much greater. This is important information to know when choosing a unit for your particular application.
At KLM Solutions we suggest, when an algae type is in doubt, to send an algae/water sample into us and we'll test the sample to determine if ultrasound is a viable solution to the problem. We'll also make suggestions on the appropriate model to use based on the configuration of the area to be treated.
Generally speaking most blue green algae, or single cell algae that creates green water can be controlled with ultrasound. Some shallower ponds and lagoons may need additional tools to help with the algae problem but for the most part, these planktonic algae can be dealt with fairly quickly since they create less density in the water.
To read about other algae control methods that are compatible with ultrasound be sure to read about the water trifecta.
Filementous or string algae has a much higher density and can take longer to control, but again, most species are controlled with sonic systems.
Pond weeds, and growths like Chara and underwater grasses are not harmed by the treatment.
One thing that does need to be kept in mind is that the sound waves need to have a clear shot at the area to be treated. Islands or heavy amounts of weed growth will impede or absorb much of the sound vibrations and therefore make them less effective. If you have a lot of weed growth, we can suggest the most effective, safe, and affordable methods for dealing with that kind of pond problem.
Listed below is the full line of ultrasonic systems that we carry. Each is designed to treat a particlar size of pond from small water gardens up to multi-acre lakes. By determining the size of the area to be treated and the algae type(s) you may be dealing with you can find a unit that will best suit your needs. And should you have questions at any time, be sure to contact us or you can learn more about how ultrasonic algae control works.

Optional Float For SS100 & SS200
Float attachment for the SS100 and SS200 models. Many times these smaller units are simply placed in a small pond or mounted in a custom configuration for industrial use. However when needed, this optional float makes installation a breeze and allows the unit to remain suspended about ten inches under the water's surface.
Price: $250.00 (included with SS400-SS500-SS600)
Transducer Cable Extensions
The transducer cable extensions make the versatility of installing the ultrasound units much greater. Now if you don't have power pond side, you can simply mount the control box near the power source and use the cable extensions to reach the pond without the tremendous cost of running an electrical line. Available in 50' and 100' foot options the extensions can be combined up to 250'.
